Contractor begins to pull CP line
Carolyn Grant

A big piece of Kimberley history is being lifted this week, as CPR pulls up the track of the CP line that was this City’s lifeline for over 100 years.

Many will have noticed that the CP rail tracks in Kimberley are disappearing quickly to make way for the new recreational trail joining the cities of Kimberley and Cranbrook.

Deconstruction of the CP rail line on the right of way between Kimberley and Cranbrook began in June. Contractors on behalf of CP Rail are working progressively from Cranbrook toward Kimberley, but have also started pulling up track behind Rotary Drive. As of Thursday morning they were near Oughtred Hall in Chapman Camp.

Lead contractors delivering the works are Westcan Rail Ltd., and HAZCO Environmental Services, supported by local contractors, says Mike Dodd from the City.

During the re-development phase, and until the official opening, the right of way is considered an industrial construction area. Citizens are requested to refrain from using the trail until complete.

If you have any questions about the work being done please contact Canadian Pacific Community Connect Service at 1-800-766-7912 or community_connect@cpr.ca
