Riveria con artists in Cranbrook

Cranbrook Community Theatre

Rehearsing CCT’s fall production, “Honestly Now!” a comic caper opening Oct 23. Left to right: Yo Quackenbush, Brian Moran, Susan Hanson, Brodie Peterson.

If those who are sin free get to throw the first stone, then there is no stone throwing in Cranbrook Community Theatre’s first production of the season at the Stage Door on 11 Avenue. “Honestly Now!”, written by Jack Sharkey, is a story full of twists, turns and laughs. Two con artists are touring the French Riviera, targeting wealthy hotel patrons at every stop. Unwittingly, two hotel staff members become embroiled in the adventure and perhaps their motives aren’t totally innocent either. Throw in a U.S. Senator and his wife, two alleged hicks from Nebraska, the Riviera Police Department and even more crooks and you have the ingredients for a delightful evening’s entertainment.

Terry Miller is directing this comedic affair and says that it was the quality of the story that drew him to this script. “There are lots of great comedies, but many of them have relatively silly story lines, while this story is believable on its’ own.” says Miller. He continues “With terrific characters, good jokes, bad jokes and plenty of physical humour this is very much a fun comedy”.

Miller, who has previously directed “The Constant Wife”, “Cemetery Club”, “Criminal Hearts” and “Toyer”, has assembled a group of talented and skilled actors to embody the characters of this show. “There are some new faces in key roles and some others who are becoming somewhat familiar to local audiences, but all in different parts than you might expect.” says Miller.

This new production runs for ten nights from Oct 23 to Nov 7, 2009 and will appeal to all audiences. Mark your calendar. Tickets will be on sale at Lotus Books.
