Honeymans perform at one-time reunion

Neill Macdonald (left) and Mike Honeyman

Around eight to 10 years ago “The Honeymans” blazed across the local rock scene. The two brothers, Kevin (lead guitar and vocals) and Mike (bass guitar and vocals) joined by the drummer Ben Dunn and the fiddle player Neill MacDonald made a name for themselves with their boisterous, joyous blend of reggae, heavy metal, rock, and Celtic influences that they delivered with a jam-band mentality. The band probably outlasted any number of bands that were on the local scene at the time but, finally, for a number of reasons the members of the quartet more or less went their own way. They have kept in touch. Of the four, Kevin remains the most active on the local scene. He frequently performs with the heavy metal band “Elkhunt” and in the bellydance/rock duo with his wife Natassja. Neill Macdonald, in a slightly different role, played with “As the Crow Flies” and briefly with a Bluegrass band led by Paige Lennox. Mike has been recuperating from a problem he has had with his voice. Ben, I’m not sure, I think left town.

For one recent, very brief Saturday evening at a private function the band re-united for probably what is going to be a one-time gig. They admitted they were rusty, this was the first time they had played together for six years, but that didn’t deter them from delivering up their usual manic fare. It was a golden opportunity to once again savoir the talents of one of the areas most original rock bands.
