Serenade for the Symphony

If you are looking for something fun to do for Valentine’s Day then Serenade for the Symphony Valentine’s Fundraiser Event is for you. Whether part of a twitterpated couple, or with a group of friends or family, everyone will have fun during this occasion.

“It really is going to be a fun evening and it is Valentine is the loosest sense of the word. It can be your mother, your sister, your best friend, anybody,” said Noelle Aleem with the Symphony. “Come out, have a fun evening, have some nice treats, and bid in the silent auction.”

The Symphony of the Kootenays’ only fundraiser of the year, the event takes place this Saturday, Feb. 13 in the ballroom at the Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with featured entertainment starting at 7:30 p.m.

“We will have desserts, chocolate and otherwise, tea, coffee and wine,” Aleem said. “There will also be a silent auction and there are some fabulous, fabulous items up for bidding.”

Some of the items in the silent auction include various ski trips, golf packages, a dinner at Class Act, a Goat River gift basket with items from Creston, and a houseboat package.

For the first hour of the event, 6:30-7:30 p.m., there will be a classical trio playing and then at 7:30 the Intunation Quartet from Calgary will perform.

“The rest of the evening will unfold almost like a cabaret, so they will be performing some Broadway tunes, some popular, light opera that everyone would know. It’s music you wouldn’t have to be an opera fan to know it,” Aleem said.

Tickets are $25 each and are available at the Key City Theatre box office and through Symphony members. You can also call 250-489-4532 or e-mail symphonyofthekootenays@shaw.ca to request tickets.

Aleem said tickets have been selling quickly and those interested in attending should buy their tickets soon as they will not be available after Wednesday, Feb. 10. Tickets will not be available at the door. If you have a group of eight you can reserve an entire table when you buy tickets.

People are encouraged to arrive at the Serenade for the Symphony’s event at 6:30 so they have time to look at all of the silent auction items and get their bids in early.
