Friday, May 28 marked the Convocation ceremony for the more than 1,100 students who were eligible to graduate from College of the Rockies.

Since its inception on May 8, 1975, COTR has graduated literally tens of thousands of students from a wide variety of programs at seven campuses.

In his address to the graduates who attended President and CEO Dr. Nick Rubidge included these comments: "You have achieved a level of educational attainment that will open doors to success and opportunity in your working and personal lives. You should be very proud of what you have accomplished . . .

"Just as education creates opportunities, it creates responsibilities and expectations: responsibilities to participate in society and the economy in an effective way; and expectations that you will apply your new learning and skills to the welfare of your community and your employment . . .

"And so, my challenge to, and wish for all of you, is quite simple: As you venture forward into the next phase of your lives, I want you to promise me you'll make a difference in the things you can influence.

• Care passionately about the welfare of your community. And get involved.

• Care intensely about human rights and democratic values. And get involved.

• Care intensely about our country and its leadership. And get involved.

• Care fundamentally and ethically about the natural, social and business environments you live and work in. And get involved.

• And, most of all, care uncompromisingly about yourself, your family, your peers and your friends," he concluded.

The Board of Governors, faculty and staff extend their sincere congratulations to all the 2010 graduates of College of the Rockies.
