It’s been a good 100 years

How about these past 100 years. We marked an important milestone Wednesday night with the celebration of the Cranbrook and District Chamber of Commerce's 100th anniversary at Colombo Lodge.

In 1914 the Chamber boasted 49 members (numbers aren't available from 1910). Today, it acts on behalf of almost 500 businesses large and small, representing thousands of employees, functioning not only as a unified voice for the business community but as a force for the betterment of the community.

The raison d'etre of the Chamber is far-reaching. It is concerned with the health and welfare of the community, tourism, culture and the arts, transportation, inter-community relations, and of course the maintenance of the spirit of entrepreneurship that has helped define Cranbrook for 100 years.

Watch Friday's Daily Townsman for reportage from Wednesday night's event.

The Chamber's isn't the only anniversary we're marking this year. Keep in mind the Studio Stage Door is turning 100 this year. Originally the Masonic Lodge, the building downtown now functions as ground zero for Cranbrook's theatrical community. And in September, the College of the Rockies is turning 35, and festivities are planned. Mark your calendars.

Business acumen, artistic drive and education excellence - 2010 is a good year to take heed of these three pillars that help make Cranbrook great.
