It’s rapidly becoming one of the more colourful buildings in Cranbrook, with a modern youthful edge adorning it’s walls inside and out.
Cranbrook Family Connections down in Balment Park hosted a graffiti clinic for youth aged six to 22 last week. The project was part of the ongoing synergy between Cranbrook Family Connections and their close neighbours, the users of the Viking Skate Park.
“What we were doing is to encourage youth to come and graffiti on the boards, and then we attach the boards to the building, instead of on the building — which is working,” said Nancy Zier, with Cranbrook Family Connections.
This was the second year Family Connections has held the event, and this year they had a guest artist in attendance — Trey Moore, a well-known graffiti artist from Phoenix, Arizona — who spent the day and helped the artists along with their visions.
Zier said there were about 50 participants, with some kids bringing their siblings along.
Pizza was donated by Little Caesars, and Ankors supplied some of the paint costs, and Cranbrook Family Connections supplied the rest of the costs.
“It was a good afternoon,” Zier said, “with a real positive vibe.”
This spring, art students from Mount Baker Secondary School came to CFC and adorned the interior walls with mural art.
