Let’s get past our redneck roots

Re: You Want To Be In Canada? Then Be Canadian” The Review, Sept. 3.

I am wondering if I took crazy pills. My first reaction of disgust is to the blatant bigotry of this letter. But then again it comes as no surprise that this uneducated, bland, white-bread point of view exists in our society.

    S. Lister is certainly not a "minority" in his or her narrow vision of the world. My second reaction is that of shock at the fact our local news rag will give a soapbox to perpetuate this type of ignorance. What should be ringing alarm bells is that S. Lister is the only opinion letter in the Friday edition of Kamloops Review.

Doing some two-minute research into the source of Wilfrid Laurier's quote exposes the lack of journalistic acuity on Kamloops Review’s part. What does this lack of thought say about our city’s world view? That we desire a citizenry of English speaking, hamburger-eating, truck driving, Christian robots? Boooooooring.

Let’s get past our city’s redneck roots and progress into a forward thinking community that embraces some variety in our thinking.
