Cranbrook Mayor Scott Manjak is going to serve another one-year term as chairman of the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK). Area C Director Rob Gay will also serve for another year.
Both men were acclaimed to their positions unopposed at the RDEK Board meeting Dec. 3 and both agreed to serve an additional year.
2011 will. be Manjak's first full year as board chair as he began his term in June 2010 when former Chair David Wilks, the Mayor of Sparwood, stepped down as chair to seek the federal Conservative nomination for the Columbia-Kootenay riding.
Manjak has been on the RDEK Board as a municipal director for 12 years and he also served five years as chair of the Kootenay East Regional Hospital District and is currently the hospital district's vice-chair.
Area C Director Gay said he was glad to serve for another term. "It's a pleasure to serve a third term as vice chair and I am eager to continue working with Chair Manjak and the entire board in the coming year."
The board chair and vice chair are elected annually at the December RDEK Board meeting.
