Each year the East Kootenay Volleyball Club offers scholarships to athletes who have significantly contributed to the success of the EKVC and who are attending a post-secondary institution as a full-time student athlete in the sport of volleyball.
The club would like to congratulate the 2010-11 scholarship recipients: Adam Ravenstein (Cranbrook), Alicia Perrin (Creston) and Rhiannon Paterson (Kimberley).
Adam Ravenstein played for the EKVC for four years and also for Mount Baker Secondary School. After graduation he enrolled at the College of the Rockies where he is a member of the COTR Men's Avalanche volleyball team. Adam plans to continue to his involvement with the EKVC as an assistant coach this season.
Alicia Perrin played for the EKVC for many years. In addition to being involved in volleyball as a player, she has also contributed to the sport as a coach. Alicia played high school volleyball for Prince Charles Secondary School and is currently attending Trinity Western University (TWU) in Langley, BC as a full time student-athlete. TWU is currently ranked first in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport's Canada West region.
Rhiannon Patterson began playing volleyball with the EKVC when she was 13 years old and played for four years. She was also active in school volleyball playing for the Selkirk Storm. Rhiannon is now playing volleyball for Capilano University in North Vancouver, where she is studying business management.
All of the recipients have credited being involved with the EKVC as contributing to their current success in post-secondary volleyball programs. Club volleyball is a great way to improve skills for the next school season, participate in Provincial tournaments and make new friends. The EKVC welcomes new members - both players and volunteers. The season runs from approximately mid-January to mid-May depending on the age group. The deadline for registration is Jan. 14, 2011.
The EKVC is the local volleyball club for athletes ages 13 to 18. The club is a registered society that coordinates with Volleyball Canada and the Provincial Volleyball Associations to promote volleyball within the region.
Teams are composed of players from throughout the East Kootenays. The large geographical area that the EKVC encompasses provides a unique opportunity for the youth of the area to interact with athletes outside their own school and city. This not only establishes lifelong friendships but also serves to bring the communities together outside the sport of volleyball.
