QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Kimberley Deer

I must comment on Brian Conn's letter and comments "If people don't like the deer maybe they should leave." Talk about a simplistic statement. All these deer do attract predators like bears, wolves, coyotes and cougars. If he doesn't believe me he should follow me on one of my 6 or 10 mile runs. Last year I was running early in the morning through the trailer court in fresh snow. In front of me were fresh cougar tracks which did get the heart beat up. About two weeks later I was coming up the fitness path on a run and witness lots of deer hair and blood in the middle of the path. Today (January 25th) I was doing a 10 miler. Five miles down to Marysville on creek trail and came upon a fresh hind leg of a deer on trail with cougar tracks near by. I was 1 mile from Marysville and needless to say my heart beat skyrocketed. I ran the 5 miles home on Fertilizer Road. Predators like cougars are attracted by the deer and could be a problem for runners, walkers and cross country skiers.
