A local politician is hoping to be named the president of the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM).
Heath Slee is the director of the Regional District of East Kootenay's electoral area B.
For the past four years, he has sat on the executive board of the UBCM and for 2010 to 2011, he is the first vice president.
This year, he will throw his hat into the ring to become the president of the board, and he has strong hopes he will be promoted to the one-year role.
A retired border official, Slee works full time as a government representative and he says he is prepared for the extra workload that the presidency would bring as he raises awareness of municipal issues to the provincial government.
Members of the UBCM will elect the executive board at its annual convention in September.
