A spate of counterfeit bills have appeared in Cranbrook.
On Wednesday, RCMP received multiple complaints of counterfeit $100, $50 and $20 bills being exchanged in various Cranbrook businesses.
Police have released several serial numbers found on the fake notes: FMH2937386, EJK4348978, ENG8028063, and ARU4722088.
"One person of interest to the police in these investigations is a female described as being between 18 and 20 years old with tattoos, medium length hair wearing a red or dark pink dress and shockingly pink eye makeup," said Corporal Pat Prefontaine.
The Chamber of Commerce has issued a high alert to businesses.
"Please make your staff aware of this and call the RCMP if you receive any of this counterfeit money," the alert read.
The RCMP repeated the warning.
"Business owners are warned to carefully inspect any bills they receive and look for the security features which are incorporated into all Canadian currency. If there are doubts about any bills, the police or any chartered bank or credit union can be of assistance," said Cpl Prefontaine.
Contact Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS with any information about the bills.
