Grab your golf clubs and head over to the Cranbrook Golf Course on Saturday, August 20, for the Firefighters 11th Annual Memorial Classic, which honours the memories of Ron Sauve, Kelly Ferner, Aaron Penner and all of the department's departed brothers.
Golfers ranging from experts to beginners are encouraged to register for the tournament, which acts as a fundraiser with proceeds being split between Muscular Dystrophy Canada and the B.C. Professional Firefighters Association Burn Fund.
"It's a lot of fun, it's not a serious tournament, we're just out there to have some fun and raise money for our two fundraisers," said Mary-Ann Kirkvold, the chairperson for the event.
Money raised will fund equipment and client services for those with muscular dystrophy as well as skin grafts, regeneration research, survivor and family support programs and the Burn House
Golfers can sign up individually or in teams, but everyone will be formed into groups of four and sent around the course in a Texas scramble format for a shotgun start.
The entry fee is $75, which includes 18 holes of golf, dinner at the clubhouse afterwards, and a tee gift. Participants are encouraged to check in at 12:45 p.m. before the event begins at 1:30 p.m.
There will be a live auction-a new addition as past tournaments have featured a silent auction-sponsored by Northstar Motors and there will be major prizes for anyone lucky enough to sink a hole-in-one.
Anyone interested in participating can RSVP to Kirkvold by phone at 250-426-2325 or email at kirkvold@cranbrook.ca before August 13.
