Transit fares going up September 1

Fares for the Cranbrook Transit System will be changing as of Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011, BC Transit announced on Monday.

On that day, cash fares will increase 25 cents, from $2.00 to $2.25 for adults, and from $1.75 to $2.00 for seniors and students. handyDART fares will increase 50 cents, from $2.50 to $3.00.

Children four and under and handyDART attendants will continue to ride free.

This is the first fare increase since September 2008, when fares were raised by

25 cents. The fare increase was approved by Cranbrook Council in February, 2011.

Decisions about fares, routes and service levels are made by the City of Cranbrook based on information and planning provided by BC Transit, which shares funding costs for Cranbrook's transit system with the City.
