The Kimberley Dynamiters built on three goals scored in the first period to end up with a 5-2 win over the visiting North Okanagan Knights on Saturday evening at the Civic Centre.
Five different Nitro players scored in the contest and stopper Jeremy Mousseau made 20 saves to earn the win.
Connor Kutzner drew blood first, close to the halfway mark of the opening period, but the Knights responded six minutes later when Patrick Chore tied up the game.
Two late goals from Colton Vannucci and Jordan Revie gave the club a two-goal lead going into the second.
Both clubs held each other scoreless in the second, as each team only got one power play opportunity.
An early third period goal from Senate Patton boosted the Nitro lead, and while Josh Wickenheiser scored on the man-advantage for the Knights, Mark Strachan put the game away with five minutes to go.
It was a mild game in terms of discipline, with eight minor infractions, but Issac Schacher was handed a five-minute major for checking from behind, which was the flashpoint for a fight against the Knights' John Saunders, for which both received five-minute majors and a game ejection.
Patton extended his goal streak to three games and Vannucci has notched three points in the last trio of games as well.
The win gives the Nitros, who are sitting in second place in the Eddie Mountain division, a comfortable seven-point lead from the third-place Creston Valley Thundercats.
It will take a lot of work to catch up to the Fernie Ghostriders, who lead the Nitros by six points, while the Kamloops Storm lead the KIJHL with 44 points-13 points ahead of the Dynamiters.
The Nitros will play their next three games at home, starting with the divisional leader in the Ghostriders this Friday.
