Despite a first period lead by the Kimberley Dynamiters, the Kamloops Storm managed to stay in the game and fight for a 5-5 tie on Friday night at the Rec Plex, while the Nitros blew off some steam the following night, blanking out the Columbia Valley Rockies 5-0 in Invermere.
The Nitros led by one after the first period, as Senate Patton, Colton Vannucci and Jordan Revie all scored, but the Storm answered with two goals from Chase Edwards.
The two teams traded goals in the second frame; Jared Marchi scoring for Kimberley on the powerplay and Daniel Buchanan for the Storm.
Kamloops tied up the game and took the lead early in the third period off of goals from Tyler Jackson and Jacky Lu, but Patton responded with a shorthanded marker to keep the game even.
Two overtime periods couldn't resolve the scoring impasse and the result stood at a 5-5 tie.
Braeden Ostepchuk earned the draw in net, facing 36 shots, while the Nitros put 40 pucks on Storm's goalie Wad Moyls.
Both Vannucci and Revie had three-point nights, with a goal and two assists, while Marchi also had an assist to add to his stats.
The pulled out a win in Invermere the following night, as Ostepchuk again manned the crease to earn the shutout, stopping 21 shots.
On the other end, the Nitros pounded an astounding 48 shots on stopper Bruce Corrigal, who played the full 60 minutes and suffered the loss for his team.
Despite the barrage of shots, the Dynamiters only scored once in the first period, which came from Jordan Bartusek.
The offense didn't stop there, as Rylan Duley, Patton-again while shorthanded-and another marker from Bartusek gave the Nitros a commanding lead after two periods.
Duley notched his second of the night late in the third frame to seal up the scoring and the game for the Dynamiter club.
