The Nitros edged out a 3-2 overtime win against their divisional rival in the Fernie Ghostriders last night at the Civic Centre in Kimberley.
Both teams traded goals in the first two periods; Alex Milhouse scored with nearly five minutes left in the opening period for the Riders, while Nitro forward Rylan Duley answered with a shorthanded marker roughly two minutes later.
Fernie again grabbed the lead in the second on a goal from Brendan Burge, but Connor Kutzner answered back for the Dynamiters near the end of the frame.
Both teams held each other scoreless in the final period and the affair went to overtime, with Duley notching his second goal of the night on a powerplay that split between the third and OT periods.
Braeden Ostepchuk got a workout between the pipes, stopping 25 of 27 shots for the Nitros, while 'Riders stopper Fraser Abdullah turned away 17 pucks.
Duley's two goals give him 23 to the season, putting him in fourth place for overall points for the Nitro squad.
Both teams will head up to Fernie on Friday night for a rematch as Kimberley looks to catch their KIJHL rivals for first place in the Eddie Mountain Division.
Kimberley's win last night puts the club within three points of eclipsing the Riders, while their closest competitor, the Creston Valley Thunder Cats, trail by more than ten points.
