The RCMP announced charges against one of their own on Tuesday, when former Constable Bryden Henessey was charged with theft under $5,000.
It has been reported recently that Henessey was also convicted of assault in October 2003 after a Terrace, B.C. man was tasered three times while in a police cell. The man was in custody at the time, and had refused to provide fingerprints.
Henessey's co-accused, Const. Brendan McKenna, was given a conditional discharge, which means he did not receive a criminal record, and was ordered to serve a year probation and to pay a victim surcharge of $50. Henessey received a conditional discharge and was docked three days pay. Both men remained on active duty following their convictions.
The charges were laid after the man came forward with a complaint of excessive force, which was investigated internally by the RCMP. The two officers were charged with assault with a weapon after that investigation.
Henessey will appear in court in Cranbrook on February 6 to face the theft charge.
