Kootenay Columbia MP David Wilks is encouraging employers to apply for funding through the 2012 Canada Summer Jobs program.
The program welcomes employers to file for funding that can be used towards salaries for summer employees. The program benefits both the employee and the employer, as it provides the opportunity for students to work for the summer and allows organizations to have an extra pair of hands for the season.
"Our government's top priority is job creation and economic growth," said Wilks. "Through Canada Summer Jobs, we are helping Kootenay Columbia employers create much-needed summer job opportunities for students, while strengthening our community's economy."
The job position must be with a not-for-profit organization, in the public sector or a small business with 50 employees or less. Workers must be within 15 to 30 years of age to qualify for the position, and must be a full-time student returning to their studies at the end of the summer. The program is a great opportunity for students to get some work experience, while making a salary for the summer months.
According to Wilks, the Government of Canada permanently increased funding for the Canada Summer Jobs program by $10 million in 2011.
Applications are available online, and the deadline will be February 29. They can be submitted to a Service Canada Centre in person, online, emailed or faxed.
