The KIJHL season is almost over, which will be a mercy for the Columbia Valley Rockies, which dropped two games against the Kimberley Dynamiters in a home-and-home series.
The Rockies have only won three games of their 52-game schedule this year, and the Nitros gave them no quarter, taking a 7-2 win on Friday in Kimberley and a 9-3 win the following night in Invermere.
Both teams fended each other off in the first period on Friday, but the Dynamiters scored four times in the second, while the Columbia Valley responded with one marker.
Taylor McDowell scored twice and Timo Antilla potted his first of the season, followed by an effort from Jordan Revie before the Rockies' Orri Haman answered back.
The Nitros continued their success into the third period, as Colton Vannucci and Rylan Duley scored before Josh Haley put the Rockies' second goal on the board.
Tyson Valette scored late in the final frame, which put an end the carnage in the Rockies' net.
Bruce Corrigal faced a whopping 54 shots from the Nitros in between the pipes, while the Rockies shot 30 pucks at Jeremy Mousseau.
The assault on the Rockies continued the next night in Invermere, as the Nitros blew the game open in the third period with four unanswered goals.
Columbia Valley scored first when Haley beat Mousseau less than two minutes into the opening frame.
But the Nitros stormed back with three goals as Rylan Duley and Corson Johnstone scored on separate powerplays and Vannucci added a marker at even strength.
The Rockies again opened the scoring in the second period on a goal from Jayson Cannell, but Vannucci responded by the halfway mark. The two teams traded goals by periods end; Todd Sykes for Columbia Valley and Duley for the Nitros.
The Dynamiters lead widened in the third period due to goals from Johnstone, Richard Hubscher, Mark Strachan and Owen Solecki.
The Nitros are one point behind the Fernie Ghostriders for first in the Eddie Mountain division, which suffered a regulation and an OT loss to the Creston Valley Thunder Cats over the weekend.
