Doping ban bars Russian gymnast Goryunova from competing at 2012 London Olympics

LAUSANNE, Switzerland - Russian gymnast Kristina Goryunova has received a one-year doping ban that will also keep her out of the 2012 London Olympics.

The International Gymnastics Federation says the 17-year-old Goryunova was sanctioned by the Russian federation after testing positive for furosemide at the national championships in November.

Furosemide is a diuretic used to help lose weight and can also mask the presence of other banned drugs.

Under IOC rules, any athlete who receives a doping suspension of six months or more is banned from the next Olympics.
