Students at Pinewood Elementary learned about legendary Scottish Poet Robbie Burns on January 25 at a fun morning assembly. The students took in some facts, watched some highland dancing and participated in fun Scottish games before the haggis was piped in. Annalee Grant photos.

It was an exciting 10 ends for Kevin Martin and Glenn Howard at the Capital One Canada Cup of Curling on Dec. 4 at the Cranbrook Rec Plex. The Martin rink came out on top with a 7-4 score over Howard. Annalee Grant photos.

Team Jones was the winner of the final match up at the Capital One Canada Cup of Curling. Lead by Jennifer Jones, the rink launched over Chelsea Carey 9-4 in an all-Manitoban final. Jones earns an automatic spot in the 2013 Roar of the Rings Olympic trials for the win. Annalee Grant photos

    In celebration of Valentine's Day, Fort Steele is hosting a fundraiser for its aging Wildhorse Theatre that will feature local performers. He Said/She Said is a celebration of relationships, told through various musicians, dancers, singers and actors. The gala benefit show will be held for one night only at the Wildhorse Theatre on February 11, and will feature talented Kootenay performers. All of the money collected will go towards restoring the theatre's seats. The performance won't be all that's on the go the night of February 11. Twoonie games during the intermission will be held, and backstage tours will be offered to see the restoration work that has already been done. Tickets to see He Said/She Said are available at the door for $15, or by calling Fort Steele at (250) 417-6000. Aasebo is still looking for interested performers to take to the stage.
